First Day of Training!

By Corinna Chute.

First Day of Training – Read on…

First day and the girls nervously wait to meet Maestra Laura Alonso, Director of the Ballet Company and direct descendant of the founders of the ‘Cuban Ballet Method’ – Alicia, Fernando and Alberto Alonso.

Walking along the balcony on the way to their first class, the girls get a glimpse of some of the company dancers on the open air stage.

The girls are shown to their studio

The assessment class with Laura is tough and the girls are nervous and unprepared for the exhaustion levels resulting from the intense heat.

Shellshocked, there is no time to recover before the pointe shoes come out! Their first pointe class is taken by Principal Dancer Patricia Hernández.

Exhausted and shaken, the two girls find it hard to absorb the reality of training at this level and in these conditions.

On their way down the girls get a first glimpse of Company class.

They head off home to collapse and reflect – “our eyes were sweating” they said.

The beautiful hotel on Jibacoa beach is a stunning backdrop to the unique experience unfolding for the dancers. With spirits subdued after the first day, it is time to recover and enjoy the stunning views of nature and wildlife at the hotel.
